Days are like apples. Despite our hopes, some days just have worms in them. The beautiful thing is, just like you can pick up a new apple, tomorrow is a new day and a new opportunity.
I really enjoy eating apples right off the tree. It’s hard to beat a crisp juicy handpicked fruit. That’s the ideal everyone hopes for, a fruit they can enjoy. But the reality is that there are some apples that will just have worms in them.
Maybe you thought the day would be different, maybe your plans seemed full proof, but for whatever reason the day did not go how you hoped it would.
People make choices that affect us. We make choices that compromise us. The world is full of pain. Hurt people will hurt other people.
But remember this: there are an abundance of apples on the tree. Tomorrow you can pick another one.
In Lamentations chapter 3, Jeremiah describes remembering his pain, his afflictions, the bitterness he feels. He describes himself as feeling downcast. I know that feeling well, do you?
But he does not let the worms in apple stop him:
21 Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope:
22 Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail.
23 They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
I’m very thankful for this promise: “Because of the Lord’s great love, we are not consumed…”
The pain in your day, the hurt from other people, they do not have to consume you. Tomorrow is a new day.
Each day God is full of compassion for you. Each day God is faithful in His love for you.
We can put our hope in the love of God.
If you are feeling consumed by the things in your day and struggles you are facing, remember this:
God is not against me.
He is in it with me.
Working through me.
Fighting for me.
You are not going through this day alone. As we tell our kids, God’s love for us is big! Each day he has compassion on you and new mercy for you.
We can hope in this.
Your apple may have a worm in it. Pick a new apple tomorrow.
There’s an abundance of apples.
The Takeaway: Who do you have your hope in today?
